I get so many ideas from my e-mail friends. This one’s too valuable to wait on. [This is a very stressful week for me, so I haven't been thinking about blogging. Except for this.]
One person asked for ideas on learning social skills. Another person replied with this list of books. I’m not familiar with them, so I don’t know how good they are, but the list os a place to start if you need books on social communication.
- Power Schmoozing: The New Etiquette for Social and Business Success (schmoozing does not equate here to superficiality but light and casual conversation)
- How to Make People Like You in 90 Seconds or Less (again, not a manipulative thing, just basic social skills)
- Conversationally Speaking: Tested New Ways to Increase Your Personal and Social Effectiveness
- The Power of Handshaking for Peak Performance Worldwide
- Social Savvy: A Handbook for Teens Who want to know what to say, what to do, and how to feel confident in any situation
- The Pocket Guide to Making Successful Small Talk: How to talk to Anyone Anytime Anywhere About Anything
I’d also recommend Miss Manners’ etiquette books. They have many tips for doing well in social settings.
