Knitting: Getting Started

What’s This Lens About?

This lens discusses the basic tools and materials you ned to get started knitting. There are samples of good “starter” yarn, and links to knitting needles for sale.  I cover some basic knitting terms, and where you can go to get knitting lessons. Knitting is hard to learn from a book, yet there’s one book series that does an excellent job. [Which one? Go look at the lens!] I talk about how to get help from your local yarn store, and some other knitting resources.

Excerpt

Many people are intimidated by the LYS. You go in, the clerk is talking to someone about Orenburg lace shawls (whatever they are, you know you can’t knit them.) In the back is a table, with more knitters doing complicated things with yarn. Nobody looks at you. Will any of these people help me? Please??

Actually, they will help. Most knitters are nice people, and they want you to experience the same joy they have in knitting. But there are some unwritten rules for asking for help – or thy were unwritten, until now.

What I Learned Making This Lens

This is a good example of a lens that mixes “how to” information with sales. There’s plenty of information here, and links to things an interested person will want to buy.

What I Didn’t Learn Making This Lens

I’m still trying to figure out how to get enough traffic to my lenses. The content of this lens is solid, the subject is popular, I did some SEO, but the traffic isn’t there.

Lens Stats and Milestones

This lens is another solid Tier 3 lens. It averages about a visitor per day.
