f I had to describe myself in 25 words or less, I would have a skill or area of knowledge for each letter of the alphabet (except O … I know only a little about origami).
Over the years, I have been a banker, corporate financial analyst, designer, Girl Scout leader, amateur architect, Odyssey of the Mind Coach, and Freecycle group owner. Through all this, I have had a long interest in typography and the graphic arts, with knitting as a serious hobby.
In 2000, I began my first for-profit design work, selling the Fast Baby Blanket knitting pattern. That venture lost it’s way under the pressure of parenting young children (but you can still buy the pattern). In 2006, I had an idea for the Union of Mad Engineers t-shirt design — and Cartesian Bear print on demand was born.
Cartesian Bear did well, and still does. When I found out I could upload and sell knitting patterns through Ravelry, I designed a format for my knitting patterns, and began selling small numbers of patterns.
I’ve indulged my love of graphic design and typography by designing flyers, forms and other materials for the various volunteer organizations I’ve worked with: Freecycle, Scouts (Boy and Girl), Destination Imagination … I’m currently doing the design and layout on my son’s elementary school yearbook.
After 20 years of marriage and two bright, high energy kids, my life took a sharp turn for the worse I was dealing with catastrophic divorce and the need to be a single parent supporting my family. I decided to turn my graphic arts skills to use, and set up Polymath Solution.
In addition to graphic arts, I teach several craft disciplines, including knitting at beginner to advanced levels and making chain mail jewelry. I haves a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and an MBA in Finance. I am active in the local community and have volunteered in my childrens’ schools.
I live in a house in the woods in New England with two mostly grown children and a cat who hasn’t chosen itself yet.
