I always found it amusing that the TSA would want to ban knitting from airplane flights.

I can understand that loose needles can be a hazard. After all, I stabbed myself 3 times while knitting a mitten thumb on US 0 double points. Stabbed in the leg. While in a car. [No, I wasn't driving.] These needles also poke holes in my travel knitting bag.

But to ban knitting altogether? Apparently, the government is worried that we’ll use our needles as weapons. But no knitter would ever use needles in a project as a weapon:

  • If we left them in the work, we’d get blood on the piece we’re knitting, and unless your Noro colorway has red-brown in it, the stains would ruin the work completely.
  • And if we pulled the needle out of the work, we’d have a terrible time putting them all back on!

Seriously, I’m all for keeping the airways safe. Even without the threat of terrorism, some needles can be dangerous, for example, my size 0s in heavy turbulence. But to ban all needles, in all situations? I’m glad I never ran across a TSA agent that strict.
