My teenaged daughter doesn’t knit. She doesn’t think it fits her image as a folk-metal fiddler with blue and green hair.

Sigh.

But … she is learning to spin. As in, drop spindle. She picked up a bag of dyed fleece (she did a dance gig at a sheep festival) and got a friend of mine to teach her the basics. She loves it, and plans to bring her spinning kit to school this fall.

Her first project? Dark green slubby knit armwarmers. Which a friend will knit for her — after all, Mom might ask her to learn to knit them herself!
