I've taken the booklet I wrote for my chain mail classes, expanded it and turned it into an e-book, Introduction to Chain Mail. This book is an excellent introduction to making chain mail, both for armor and jewelry applications.
It covers the history of chain mail, materials and equipment needed (along with links to sources), basics for working with pre-made rings, and extensive tutorials for 2 chain and one sheet weave. I also give directions for shaping the sheet weave (for making mail garments) and a small project to get you started.
Finally, there are links to suppliers, more tutorials and online forums.
